The Bishop Garrigan Girls Golf team have once again dominated the 1A State Golf Tournament Leaderboard. The Lady Bears won the 1A State Title by 26 strokes with a 2-day total of 713. After Day 1 the girls were up by 6 strokes and on Day 2 made a dramatic push. Ava Eisenbarth led the charge on Day 2 with an 81 which was the second-best round 2 score from the entire field. Annie Burns was the 5th place medalist with 167 and Ava Eisenbarth tied for 6th place medalist 168. Bishop Garrigan was the only team with 2 golfers in the top 6. One of the major factors in this dominating win was the state tournament experience of the team. 3 of the golfers were in the top 20 at last year's tournament (Annie Burns placing 3rd last year, Ava Eisenbarth placing 13th and Riley Rosenmeyer placing 16th)
The girls were able to redeem their ticket for the 3rd time in a row and continued a strong tradition of golf at BGHS with the 10th overall Championship for the girls team and 21 total championships for both boys and girls in school history.
The senior leadership will be greatly missed next year. "Their legacy will be hard to beat," says coach Victor Berte. This group of seniors has won every meet other than 1 and has 3 state titles. Their sophomore year was unfortunately silenced because of Covid but there is no doubt they would have been successful. Senior leader Annie Burns has been a medalist two years in a row. "We had a great season and a lot of fun. At some point the state championship streak will end, but the seniors were determined to make sure it wasn't on our watch. We also had an unfair advantage because we had 2 of the best coaches in the state with Victor Berte and Steph Ehlers," says Annie Burns.
